And if getting splashed is definitely not on your vacation agenda, then head to the adult-only pool for the most pristine pool and lounge area in Destin. This pool is not to be missed!

Cabanas with a cool breeze, poolside chairs for sunbathing or reading a good book, and turquoise waters are all waiting for you at the adult-only pool at The Henderson. Believe me, it’s perfection for parents who are escaping for the weekend.

4. The Food

There are some fantastic places to eat in Destin, including Donut Hole (for breakfast/brunch), Pomano Joes (seafood right on the beach and a great photo op), McGuires Irish Pub (they have over 100,000 dollar bills hanging from the ceiling!), and Primrose, which happens to be inside The Henderson. Primrose is elegant dining with an intimate atmosphere perfect for a romantic evening or a foodie night out.

They have a sushi chef who makes incredible sushi rolls right in front of you. 

The menu is diverse and delicious. Our favorites were the Crispy Cauliflower (I’m still dreaming about it!), Atlantic salmon with lemon grass wine sauce, and of course, dessert.

The flourless chocolate cake with blackberry cabernet jam and fresh berries was divine, along with the beignets with mocha pot de creme.

Primrose is definitely a must during your stay at The Henderson. And if you’re looking for quick eats, make sure to hit up the poolside menu at The Henderson, including frozen drinks and delicious salads.

4. The Activities

If you’re feeling adventurous and want to try out some fun new activities, The Henderson has you covered! Sometimes vacation is the best time to do something out of your comfort zone, including one of the coolest classes I have ever tried…PaddleFit!

PaddleFit involves you, a paddle board, and a pool and is crazy fun and definitely challenging! You work on core strengthening and isometrics, all while trying to stay on your paddle board. (Believe me, people fall off all the time!)

The Henderson offers a variety of wellness and fitness opportunities, like rooftop cycling, Surfset (an awesome fitness class inspired by surfing!), and my personal favorite, beachside yoga.

Beachside yoga is complimentary to all Henderson guests (as are many of the yoga classes) and is always one of our highlights during our stay at The Henderson.

Creating a Cozy Fall Corner with Walmart

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

And if you think I’m talking about Christmas – you’re wrong. (Don’t worry…that’s coming!)

I’m talking about fall!!!

There’s something endearing about the fall. After a summer of adventure and outdoors, all of a sudden the mornings get a little crisper and the smell in the air changes.
I’m always a little hesitant, at first, to accept the changes, but then the pumpkin spice takes over!

I was reading an article about something called “hygge” the other day. Hygge is a danish word that means ” a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture).
In my mind, this so perfectly describes what I’m trying to evoke once fall rolls around and I’m grateful Walmart is making it EASY for me.

I love this because I don’t even HAVE to leave my cozy house! 
They also offer a variety of styles! Whether your style be farmhouse, traditional or modern, they really have something for everyon!

The area of the house I wanted to focus on was around the fireplace.

The fireplace is not only a source of warmth in our home LITERALLY, but also figuratively. It’s a place we gather around as a family to read books, or just chat about our day. It’s a place I hope my kids know they can ALWAYS come to and find a cozy and safe part of the world. I wanted to deck this area out with gentle reminders of fall and all the traditions thereof, while still making it a welcoming space. 

One of the main additions was this gorgeous plaid chair. 

It’s one that is pure classic design and will stand the test of time as it NEVER goes out of style. The plaid is a subtle black and white with wood legs.
The colors fit in well with my Fall scheme, but honestly, I know this chair will go with me through ALL seasons. High end quality, with a crazy awesome price.
This is one I want everyone to know about.

Naturally, blankets are a great way to make ANY space cozy.

The FIRST thing my kids reach for in the mornings, and in the evenings, are blankets. I have to admit, I am CONSTANTLY finding, folding, putting away, and then refolding again 10 minutes later every blanket! Anyone else?

This specific blanket is made of Chenille so it’s EXTRA soft. It comes in several colors, but the cream coordinated perfectly with the chair. Draping it over the back gives it a welcome appearance. 
Not to mention, it gives it INSTANT cuddling appeal.
No one’s complaining about that!

Next up, the decor.

I wanted to do something that some really be carried out through ALL fall, and not just one month. I feel like a lot of this is versatile enough, you could really have it up year round in different ways.
Take for example, these lanterns. 
I love them on either side of my hearth, for now I can use filler leaves in them for fall. Around Christmas, I could change it up and fill with little lights and even a few small ornaments. 
There’s really a ton you can do with them and I like that I’m getting a lot of bang for my buck. 

I also fell in love with the darling buffalo plaid pumpkins. They tie in the chair PERFECTLY, and it’s what I call, a subtle pumpkin. Because of the patterned fabric, you almost have to look twice to realize it IS a pumpkin. 

Fall Perfection. 

Lastly, the decorative THANKFUL tray and BLESSINGS tray. 
They’re made of metal, adding a farmhouse vibe to the cozy fall corner.
I love the subtle reminders of what we should really be focused on during the fall. 

Isn’t being thankful what it’s all about?

I’m loving this little corner of fall coziness we were able to create in our home. 
Not only is it more aesthetically pleasing, it’s also more inviting to my whole family now!
No doubt, thanks to our gorgeous finds at Walmart, we’ll be spending a lot more time here together now!

3. Yes, I am a Hydro Flask snob.

Sorry, not sorry? Since my style is minimalistic, there are some things I’m willing to pay name brand for and Hydro Flask is one of them. It goes everywhere with me.

The quality is unprecedented, and I haven’t found any knock-off that can quite compare. I found this Hydro Flask on Facebook Marketplace and love the little handle that makes it so easy to carry around.

My kids love to steal it from me.

4. Mini backpack

Most days I like to ditch the purse and opt for a mini backpack instead. I love the Fjallraven Kanken brand and they have a mini backpack that is so fun!

5. Easy, on-the-go makeup

I don’t wear a lot of makeup, but when I do, I want it to be easy. I don’t spend a lot of time on makeup, but I do like to have it handy, especially a little mascara, bronzer, and a tinted lip gloss.

PVC Flue Gas Venting Pipe

System 1738 – Engineered PVC Flue Gas Pipe

Years ago we started installing gas boilers that allowed venting through PVC piping. The use of PVC piping to vent the boilers made for easy routing of vent pipes and the ability to easily vent up through the roof much like plumbing vent stacks. Until recently the industry didn’t have standards that addressed the use of venting flue gasses with PVC piping. So for many years gas boilers were installed with traditional PVC piping like the picture shown below (boiler in my own home!).

Unfortunately, traditional PVC DWV piping was never designed or certified for transmitting gasses, rather it was only designed and certified to carry liquids. Obviously, the release of CO gasses into the home could be a very serious safety issue resulting in CO poisoning and possibly death. As a result, new standards have been developed to specifically address the use of PVC pipes to vent gas appliances. That new standard is UL 1738 – UL Standard for Safety Venting Systems for Gas-Burning Appliances.

Recent changes in both the NHPA 54-18 and IFGC-18 Fuel Gas Codes now recognize the UL 1738 venting standard. The UL 1738 venting standard ensures that the entire system including the piping, fittings, solvents are designed to carry flue gasses safely. UL 1738 also requires that products be labeled for easy identification.

There are several products available on the market which meet the UL 1738 standard. One of those products includes the System 1738 product line.

System 1738

System 1738 is an engineered PVC Flue Gas Venting System certified to UL 1738. System 1738 is a UL 1738 certified vent system for Category II and IV gas burning appliances. The system is rated for flue gas temperatures up to and including 149°F (65°C). Pipe sizing includes 2″, 3″ and 4″ along with corresponding fittings, cement, and venting accessories. Some of the benefits of using System 1738 include:

• Fully certified as a complete system of pipe, fittings, cement and venting accessories.
• Permanent solvent welding joining system.
• Material type, temperature rating and product certification is included in the pipe print line and fitting certification sticker.
• Carbon monoxide warning label.
• Solvent cement formulated for the application.

What Does This Mean for Homeowners?

So the real question is what does this mean for homeowners? If you’re having a new gas boiler installed in a new home or existing home be sure to ask your heating professional if the venting system meets the new UL 1738 standard. If you have an existing gas fired boiler that uses traditional PVC DWV piping it’s important to ask your heating professional to inspect your current vent piping and discuss options for addressing the UL 1738 standard to ensure your heating system doesn’t have any gas leaks.

Getting Halloween and Fall Ready with Jane

I love the Fall. As sad as I am to see Summer drip away, and wake up to a chill in the air, there’s still some mega excitement. The crisp air, crunchy leaves underfoot, Friday night football games, and cozy sweaters all put a little hop in my skip. Plus, with Fall comes the knowledge that the HOLIDAYS are just around the corner – and no one’s complaining about that!

One of my favorite places to shop for all my festive Fall needs is Jane.com.
