Chapter 2 - One of my Trade secrets
On this wall project we couldn't remove the BAD wall so I use a cheat move and show you how we do it. Plus how to measure and cut retaining wall blocks. Some retaining walls get built in a way that makes them impossible to safely remove. So I show you how to work around that Plus how to dig around a corner and measure grade for the subcut, and cut grates into the blocks.

Less Waste Kitchen Ideas by Rachel Talbott

Less Waste Kitchen Ideas
Hey everyone! Thanks for stopping by my channel. Please expand this description box to read more info and details on everything I shared in the video… I’ve been making small changes over time to be less wasteful throughout my home. I recently started experimenting with canning, tincturing, and storing homemade items. I will be sharing a lot more of that as I continue on this journey. All of the items I ordered from these companies on Amazon came in very/ compostable packaging. Consider ordering everything in bulk/at one time so Amazon ships less packages. Also, a lot of Amazon packaging is compostable, including the boxes and shipping tape. I heard about these reusable paper towels from a Homestead channel on YouTube I really like called That 1870's Homestead (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGlnnV1P-cUPZ-laIOL62_Q) I’ve been inspired by a lot of her gardening, canning, and animal care tips. I like reusable towels, but the reusable paper towels work GREAT! My husband was actually really impressed by them too. They wash very well. Just wash by hand, or in the washer on cold and gentle. Hang them to dry! I use them for everything from wiping down the kitchen, drying glass etc. I highly recommend these https://amzn.to/31JCRsH The dish soap solid and brush from https://theearthlingco.com are also AMAZING!! I like these better than others I have used in the past, and the solid works soooo much better than I anticipated. It cleans very well, and is perfect for a light pre dish washer clean or even just washing dishes by hand! I decided to cut out buying hand soaps and use reusable containers to make it myself. I'm gonna start buying unscented Castile soap (https://amzn.to/3jwLqNw this is the link for bulk lavender, but check out the unscented and sensitive option on Amazon as well. Much better for use around kids and pets) Here are the mason jars and 4 foaming dispenser tops https://amzn.to/32LQEya Compostable sponge scrubber -https://amzn.to/3jyNiFQ I like this as an additional option for cleaning the kitchen. It's abrasive enough for tough kitchen cleaning and can be thrown in the compost. This pack comes with 4. Soak the sponge for 3-5 minutes before using. For HOMEMADE ALL PURPOSE CLEANSER - I like Rosemary + Thyme. Cover completely in vinegar and let sit for several days to a week. Once the vinegar is infused, strain very well. Use glass bottles ( https://amzn.to/2YQKQCw ) to store the infused vinegar cleanser. The glass bottle set comes with a chalk pen. I use these all purpose cleansers on my cutting boards, marble etc with no problems. For tile floor cleanser I use 1 gallon of water 1/2 cup vinegar 8 drops Lavender 8 drops lemon 5 drops unscented Castile Soap (I use some of my lavender Castile for today) Beeswax wraps food covers for wrapping left over watermelon, cabbage etc.. These work well, but have an interesting scent and take some getting used to. I will use these until I find a better solution https://amzn.to/2G5p0ob I will share more content soon on canning, fermenting, kombucha, dehydrating and tincturing. We saved up and finally invested in this Excalibur dehydrator. We have been LOVING IT!!! We have many ideas to share soon!! https://amzn.to/3hOqzVM I've also been saving and waiting for good prices on mason jars. I've been collecting them for upcoming canning of what's in our garden. I will share more soon, but you can see all the cans in the background of this video. lol The reusable grocery mesh bag is also from TheEarthingsco.com, I prefer to shop local farm stands or markets if I'm buying something we aren't currently growing. ♥MY MUSIC: https://spoti.fi/2MB4U8p ♥MY WEBSITE: http://www.racheltalbott.com ♥MY SHOP: http://www.PacificThyme.com/ ♥INSTAGRAM: http://followgram.me/racheltalbott ♥MY PINTEREST: https://www.pinterest.com/racheltalbott/ ♥HUBBYS COOKING CHANNEL: http://www.youtube.com/ByronTalbott ♥FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/rachel.talbott * DISCLAIMER: The opinions expressed are true &my own. Tween Pamper Party

Throw A Tween Pampering Party

Tween Pamper Party Ideas

Sometimes finding just the right theme for a ‘Tween’ birthday girl can be a hard task.  They are soooooo over Dora and Hello Kitty but are not quite ready for the boy/girl teen parties.  What to do, what to do?!  My dear friend, Val, came up with the perfect solution—on a budget.  A Tween Pamper Party!

Imagine being nine, walking into a party, and seeing this. {Giddy}! Personalized pamper baskets!

bucket full of pampering products for tween pamper party

pink sleeping mask

But first, some ‘grown-up’ food for the ‘grown-up’ girls.

chocolate fountain, strawberries and mini cheesecakes in a collage

Then, these girls were ready to be pampered.

The personalized pamper baskets doubled as mini pedi-spas.

followed by facials…

and then a ‘much-needed soak’ in the hot tub.

I can only imagine being nine and feeling completely pampered from head to toe.  These girls are having the time of their lives at this tween pamper party.  This is bound to be an experience they will remember.

Sheesh, I think I might throw an adult pamper party. I could use chocolate, a pedicure, facial, and long soak in the hot tub!

Let’s meet the face behind this Tween Pamper Party, Val.

two women at a party

FIVE FUN FACTS ABOUT VAL {provided by her little sister Mikelle}:

1. Val’s favorite show of all time is Little House on the Prarie.

2. She is very optimistic. She always looks at the cup half full.

3. She NEVER EVER follows a recipe.

4. Val absolutely loves being a mom {and does it extremely gracefully}. She has five children and would probably have five more if her husband would let her.

5. Val is constantly doing hair, nails, and makeup.

SUPERHERO POWER WANTED:

Elimination of laundry. After world peace,… of course.

Val, next time you throw a tween pamper party, could you please put me on the guest list?

Have any of you ever thrown a tween pamper party? Ideas? We want to hear!

Special Back to School Dinner

Back to School Dinner
Lazy summer days are coming to an end for most (if not already ended) and backpacks are being stuffed with supplies. Back to school is an exciting time for kids (and moms) and at our house we try and make it something to look forward to, and ease the fears and insecurities that lie just below the surface.

One of our favorite traditions this time of year is our special back-to-school dinner. We hold it the night before the first day of school. (However, it might work better for you on the first day or even two weeks later.) Here are three easy steps to make this dinner memorable for your family.
Back to School Dinner
1. Menu:
Let the kids pick the menu. Their selections would never make my list of “special dinner options” but it’s special to them because they chose it. With multiple kids, you might need to break it out and let one choose the main dish and another choose the dessert. This has made for some interesting dinner combinations at our house, but they all walk away happy. And yes, it usually includes some sort of Jello – kids are funny that way! We pull out the “fancy cups” as my kids refer to them as and we always make sure to have sparkling cider.

Back to School Dinner
2. Decorations:
Chances are you won’t have to spend a dime on decor. Open up the office drawers and use the kids school supplies before they take them the first day. Throw a fun tablecloth (or use wrapping paper like I did) on the table.
Back to School Dinner
Use a roll of paper to create a runner they can color and write on during dinner.
Back to School Dinner
Back to School Dinner
Back to School Dinner
We used clipboards for placemats and clips to hold the name tags.
Back to School Dinner
Back to School Dinner
I scoured through the closet and found ABC and math flashcards which worked great.
Back to School Dinner
You can make a banner out of an old book – tear out a couple pages and use permanent marker or cut out letters that you print from the printer.
Back to School Dinner
Grab some books from your bookshelf and you’ve got a festive table.
Back to School Dinner
3. Program:
Our dinner serves an important purpose; we introduce our family theme for the school year and go over important information. The theme can be as simple or as complicated as you like. It could be a quote, a scripture or a word. Last year our word was “Gratitude” and we had a printed scripture in our kitchen all year, “In every thing give thanks.” My husband and I really think about something our family could work on to serve as our theme. This year we landed on “Be Kind and Stand Up”.
Back to School Dinner
We always want our children to be kind to others, but more importantly we wanted to instill within them the drive to stand up for those that struggle to stand on their own. We discussed ways to stand up and opportunities we could work on. We’ll spend one day a month during a family night over the school year to reiterate different points of the theme.
Back to School Dinner
The back-to-school dinner is also a great time to go over important family/safety information. Where do you go if you get off the bus and no one is home? Who lives close you can call on for help? Do you know the phone number? How do you handle someone mean at school? We always open it up for questions from our kids and sometimes its comical of the worse case scenarios they want you to walk through with them. It was also that night I realized I had failed as a parent when our new kindergarten boy didn’t know the phone number! Whoops! That’s why this dinner is quite useful. For some of the very important information, you can laminate a small card (with important phone numbers and the child’s address) and put it in the front pocket of the backpack.

In the end, you can toast to a new, exciting school year and send them to their beds dreaming of pencils and lunch boxes. It will be a dinner they won’t soon forget.

Welcoming Fall! The Best Zulily Fall Finds.

**This post is sponsored by Zulily and ShopStyle**

I’m also over Summer by the end of August. The Summer fun is over and we’re full, onward press with business as usual. I’m always ready to bust out the sweaters, mums, and pumpkins. Oh ya, and sequin masks. This year is definetly unique, but your Fall doesn’t have to stop! Deck out that wardrobe, and home, in some fun new Fall finds. I picked out all my faves on Zulily.

Have you shopped Zulily? It’s one stop shopping for ALL your needs. I love that Zulily has new deals each day so there’s always something new! They’ve recently shortened shipping times too! This means you don’t have to wait long for all your goodies. Plus, those savings are amazing!

Did you know when you place an order on Zulily with paid shipping (Friday-Saturday), it opens a window of free shipping on additional orders for the rest of the weekend. Once you’ve paid that first shipping charge, we’ll try to consolidate subsequent purchases into a single shipment, and we’ll give you the lowest-priced shipping option for free for all items ordered by 11:59pm PT on Sunday.

Pretty Cool. Now, let’s get down to business and talk all the things you need to welcome Fall this year!

Pumpkin hoodie
I’m all about the festive wear for the kiddos. Plus, my kids HATE coats in the Fall. This hoodie is practical AND darling!

Sequin masks
If you have to wear a mask, it might as well as be a CUTE one. I mean, how fun are these blinged out sequin version? It’s lined so it won’t be itchy. Plus, it’s bound to make people smile!

Graphic tees for kids
Our family LOVES graphic tees and this line for kids has some hilarious ones. They’re so easy to layer in the Fall!

Leopard boat shoe
When you can’t wear sandals anymore, but you’re not feeling boots JUST yet, these are a great “in between”. A boat shoe with a funky print. Plus, leopard pairs with just about everything! Under $20 for these babies!

Grey Camo long sleeve
Camo is basically a neutral. This top would be cute alone, or even paired with a light jacket.

Fall graphic tee
Remember how I said we LOVE graphic tees in our family? No reason for YOU to miss out. This is perfect paired with jeans and slip on sneakers on a warmer day or with a cardigan and booties on a cooler day!

Tie Dye Lounge set
What is it about the weather cooling down that just makes me want to cozy up in front of the fire with a good book and a comfy outfit? Bring the HOT tie dye trend into Fall!

Leopard Colorblock sweater
This is the classiest combo of leopard print I’ve ever seen! These colors would look awesome in Fall family photos. The price is great too!

Da Bomb Bath Bombs
Have you tried these bath bombs before? They come with the most unique names – “Hero”, “Dragon”, “Unicorn” and more. My kids and me might be fighting over these! (Note: I always win!)

Patterned Rolling Pin
I love to do a good baking project with my daughters! This looks like a such a fun twist to the traditional sugar cookie. A PATTERNED rolling pin! Have you seen these before?

Dolman Tunic
Under $13 and in even plus sizes, this tunic is one EVERYONE can grab. Pair with some leggings and you’ll have a staple outfit for your wardrobe!

Wooden Sign
I just love this quote from one of my favorite authors. This would look lovely styled on a console table or on the wall. Such a good message!

Monogrammed Planter Box
I recently visited a friend who is obessed with plants. She has gorgeous, stylish green plants and trees all around her house. This planter box is personalized, afforadable, and would be awesome in your house or as a gift!

There you have it, Fall at it’s finest – and all at amazing prices! Wouldn’t these be fun to add into your wardrobe, or home? I think so! Remember, Zulily products do change daily, so grab your favorites before they’re gone!

In a Bind? This is the answer.

**This post is sponsored by Walmart and RewardStyle. All opinions are our own.**

Picture this.

Your baby wakes up from his nap with a slight fever and fussiness from teething. Your husband is out of town. The bus just dropped off your 2 older kids. You have a report due to the office by tomorrow morning. When, all of a sudden, it dawns of you that you’re out of milk and diapers. WHAT TO DO?

Sound familiar?

There are so many times I have needed something QUICK and didn’t want to go to the store for whatever reason. Be it medicine for a sick kid, tampons for a surprise visit, or a forgotten ingredient for the dinner guests arriving in a couple hours. I am SO excited to tell you about this amazing service called Walmart Express delivery. It’s an absolute answer to SO many problems!

Maybe you know that Walmart delivered groceries? It’s the best thing ever. Everything you need, brought directly to your door. It saves you SO much time and effort. Did you know that you also have the option, in many areas, to have those items delivered to your door in 2 hours or less? I tried it myself, and let me tell you, I only wish this had come into my life sooner! Life is so busy for so many of us. Convenience is a must in my life, as I’m sure it is for you.

Just the other day, I realized we were down to just a couple diapers! You’d think after this many kids, I’d always be stocked up, alas, I wasn’t! Sometimes, we all just forget to plan ahead. I didn’t want to drag all my kids alone to the store, so I pulled up the Walmart app on my phone, added some diapers and other essential items (ummm…Coke Zero of course!) and checked out. At check out, I was able to choose “Express delivery.” It was an absolute RELIEF to know I could have exactly what I needed, at my door, in such a short time – 2 hours or less to be exact!

After ordering the delivery, I got an email/text saying that my items were ready for deliver. I timed it, and it was exactly 55 minute later. I then got a personal text from the delivery person letting me know that the groceries were at my door. You do have the option for the delivery person to leave the items at your door even if you aren’t there. Just don’t do that if you ordered ice cream. 😉

Here are some facts I learned while using Walmart Express delivery. You might find these helpful too. :

  • Orders come from your local store. Check to see if your area has Express delivery.
  • Orders must be over $35 and no more than 64 items.
  • Most stores offer this service from 10am – 6pm.
  • There is an additional express fee on top of the traditional delivery fee.
  • There is no markup on items. Prices are just the same as in the store.
  •

Specifically, I ordered diapers (the Hello Bello brand is fantastic and darling), wipes, children’s acetametaphin (teething baby!), baby food, bread Coke zero (Mom needs it!), milk, and corn on the cob because I needed a last minute dinner idea! I also thought, after the fact, that I should have ordered some school supplies!

I found the whole process incredibly easy, user friendly and extremely convenient.  It gave me such peace of mind to know, that no matter what the day looks like as a busy woman/mom/employee, I can meet my family’s needs even if I can’t get to the store.

Thanks to Walmart Express delivery, I can spend more time with my family and less time worrying about all those last minute things I forgot to get or need in a jiffy!

You’ve got to give Walmart’s Express delivery!
It’s a complete game changer for my life, and it will be for yours too!

**Walmart Express delivery is subject to availability at select stores. Standard delivery fee and/or Express delivery fee may apply. Minimum order applies.

A Fun Back-to-School Idea to Ease the Jitters

*We are so happy to partner with Kinder Joy™—a treat that our families have truly fallen in love with!

A few days before school starts every year, my kids start to get the jitters. What will their new teacher be like? Who will be in their class? What kind of bathroom pass will the teacher have?

Back-to-school time can be both exciting and a little nerve-wracking for many kids. Some are starting a brand new school, meeting new teachers, or just have a few jitters to work out. Some kids even experience anxiety, especially when they think too much about the unknown factors of starting a new school year. My daughter is definitely one of those.

It’s okay to be nervous, and I tell my daughter that. But I also remind her of all the fun things about school that she loves. I think validating her feelings helps, along with a fun tradition to take her mind off her nerves.

That’s why we started a back-to-school tradition of family game night the night before school starts. It helps take their minds off their nervousness and focus on the fun.

Back-to-School Game Night Eases Jitters

Back-to-school game night is our kids’ favorite tradition. We break out the games (which we rarely have time to sit down and play, so it’s a special occasion) and share a fun treat together. This year I picked up some of these cool Kinder Joy treats and the kids were thrilled!

Have you tried Kinder Joy yet? They are amazing!

Kinder Joy™ is a treat like no other with two separately sealed halves – a treat side made of two creamy layers and a second half containing an exciting mystery toy!

It’s the perfect treat for back-to-school—I like to surprise my kiddos when they come home with this special treat. Kinder Joy is here to help you kick off the new school year with lasting memories that your family will cherish forever because not only do they get to enjoy the treat, but there’s also the toy that inspires us to play together and share a little bonding moment.

A lot of little moments add up to mean something big.

Back-to-school game night and Kinder Joy can go hand-in-hand to help you create memorable moments as everyone heads back to school this fall!

Games, treats, and laughter

We started this back-to-school tradition of game night when our daughter was headed to Kindergarten. She’s a worrier and just couldn’t calm down the night before school started. So to take her mind off her jitters, we pulled out the games and it worked! We played all her favorites until it was bed time and she was so happy.

We had fun as a family and she never forgot that. In fact, she’s the reason game night became a tradition. Every single year she is the first one to dust off the games. Traditions help bind families together.

And no game night would be complete without a treat. Kinder Joy is the perfect game night treat! If you haven’t tried it yet, do! My kids adore the treat plus the toy and I think I love the treat just as much (if not more) than they do.

And here’s a fun hack: you can even use the toys that come in each Kinder Joy treat as game pieces! We discovered this while playing Clue and finding that half the pieces were missing. Smart and fun!

This back-to-school season, share the joy of Kinder Joy with your family. Replace nervousness with fun and family by creating special bonding moments like back-to-school game night.

Try Kinder Joy for yourself. You’re going to love them!

Photos by Kara Jo Eaton

Thanks to Kinder Joy for sponsoring this post. Our opinions are totally our own and these fun and delicious treats are seriously the bomb!
