It’s #Time2Potty! Signs, Tips, and Proud Mama Moments in Potty Training

*Gearing up to potty train? Let’s do it mama! Thanks to Pull-Ups® Training Pants for sponsoring this post and giving us some great ideas on how to make potty training fun.

Whether it’s your first, last, or any child in-between, potty training can be…intimidating. It’s a huge milestone in your child’s life, but also a big commitment for mom and dad.

But potty training doesn’t have to be daunting, it can be fun! And just think of the end result—no more buying diapers, no more changing diapers, and no more stinky diapers piling up on your cement pad outside. (Please tell me I’m not the only one guilty of doing that!) An even better end result is your happy little boy or girl who can proudly go potty all by themselves.

Easy & Fun Potty Training

There are many signs of potty training readiness, but I knew it was time to start potty training my oldest daughter when she started fussing over her diapers. When they were wet she’d say, “Yucky,” and try to pull her diaper off. At nighttime, she didn’t want to wear her diaper anymore and I took one look at my husband, grimaced and said, “Honey, it’s time.”

I knew I wanted this to be a big moment, so I took my big girl to the store and together we picked out her first pack of Pull-Ups Training Pants. The fact that each Pull-Ups feature her favorite Disney characters is awesome! It really is more than a great training pant—Pull-Ups.com is also a fantastic resource for parents! In fact, 3 out of 4 moms prefer the Pull-Ups offering* over other brands and I’m definitely one of those moms!

You’ll find the most helpful potty training tips, in-pack prizes, activities, incentives, and even games to make potty training fun!

Pull-Ups Training Pants help kids and parents work together to learn independence on their potty journey. They look and fit more like underwear, allowing little ones to slide their pants on and off easily. Not quite sure if it’s time to start potty training? Here are some signs that can help you recognize if it’s time:

  • Your child can follow simple instructions.
  • His or her diaper is consistently dry when he or she wakes up in the morning.
  • Your child tells you with words or body language when he or she needs to go to the bathroom.
  • Your child is showing more interest in your use of the potty or copying your behavior.

You can also visit Pull-Ups.com and take the Potty Training Readiness Quiz to see if your little one is ready.

Potty Personalities

Pull-Ups has an entire Potty Training Program called the Potty Partnership you can follow. It’s research-based and focuses on the personality types of your little tykes. Chances are your potty trainer leans toward one of these five potty training personalities.

Take the quiz to see what your child’s potty personality is! I learned some fascinating things about my little Owl that help us tailor her potty training experience uniquely to her. For example, Owls have strong preferences (not a surprise to this mama!) so she likes to be in control. Pull-Ups showed me that she would be fascinated by potty supplies, so we talked through all of that fun stuff!

Proud Mama Moments

I have four children which means I’ve done the whole potty training routine three times with one more to go. You’d think by now I’d be a pro, but I’m not. Each child is so different and it’s like starting all over again every time.

But one thing that’s always the same are proud mama moments. They are those small moments of excitement when your little one pees or poops into the potty for the first time and their eyes light up. It’s that moment she gets to call grandma to tell her all about it.

Proud mama moments usually come right when you are about to give up. In a day filled with nine accidents (which are totally normal, by the way!), it’s that one time your child uses the potty all by herself that is the shining moment!

Those proud mama moments make all the hard parts about potty training worth it. Join us the rest of this year with Pull-Ups as we’ll be sharing more potty training tips, stories, and inspiration to help you and your little one stick with it.

Think it might be #Time2Potty and want to be entered to win $1,000 and be featured in an upcoming issue of Parents Magazine? Share your story of how you and your kids got excited to start potty training and how you made the journey fun. Three runners-up will win a 1-month supply of Pull-Ups Training Pants.

Hurry though! Contest ends June 30. Good luck!
