When I started looking for alternative ways to deal with my stress, and subsequent awful sleep patterns, I kept running across CBD oil.
I would immediately dismiss it because I ASSUMED it was the same as medical marijuana. (Spoiler alert! It’s not!) It took a friend educating me about it to realize that it was EXACTLY what I had been looking for…a natural remedy for pain, stress, and anxiety with little to no side effects. Now that I use CBD oil quite often, I tell people about it all the time! I get a lot of different reactions ranging from curiosity to skepticism and sarcastic Cheech and Chong comments.
Every conversation though, ends with “Oh, I should try that!” People are genuinely interested in what it is, and how it works.
You’re probably one of those people since you’re here.
Here are answers to 5 of the most common questions I get about hemp-based CBD oil and the brand that I have come to love and trust.
1. What is hemp CBD, and what would I use it for?
Hemp CBD, short for cannabidiol, is an organic compound that comes from industrial hemp plant. Simple as that. Some common uses for hemp CBD are support for stress/anxiety, inflammation/pain relief, and to better sleep. The way I like to explain it is simply, if brings your body to a stable level of homeostasis. CBD is currently being studied for a wide variety of health issues, including seizures, insomnia, chronic pain, and more. It can be ingested or used topically.
2. What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?
The short answer: One is a drug that gets you high and the other is not!
The long answer: Both hemp and marijuana are plants that belong to the Cannabis family.“Marijuana” is a term used to classify varieties of Cannabis that contain more than the legal amount of THC and can induce psychotropic or euphoric, high effects. “Hemp” is a term used to classify varieties of Cannabis that contain 0.3% or less THC content. The CBD oil I like the best, and trust, is a pure hemp CBD oil. Using a CO2 extraction process, they remove all cannabinoids and leave a pure CBD product. All of their CBD is grown in the United States, extracted then manufactured in Kentucky. Upness controls the process from the seed to the finished product. I use Upness Products specifically because of this process that produces a pure, third-party certified THC free, CBD oil.
Are you still with me? That was ALOT of information in a few sentences.

3. Can I get high or be otherwise impaired using it?
NO! You cannot get high. It does not show up on a drug test. It does not impair you or your judgement. Consuming hemp CBD won’t land you a spot in a Judd Apatow film or make you more likely to skip school to hang out under the bleachers! Not all CBD products are created equally but Upness is of TOP quality in terms of product and processing
4. Is CBD safe?
Yes! CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential….To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD oil.
I have turned into the parent that says “Put some CBD on it!” for every ache or pain! Just recently, I had horrible shoulder pain from some strange contortion while lifting a heavy toddler. I used the Upness CBD Salve, and in just a few minutes I felt relief from pain. I honestly couldn’t believe it myself! It is safe for adults, for kids and even pets!
5. Is CBD legal?
Yes. CBD derived from hemp plants that have less than 0.3% THC in their genetic makeup are legal in all 50 states. That’s it! It’s legal!
I use this brand. On each box, there is a QR code that will let you see EXACTLY how much THC is in that specific batch.
For me, a dropper full of CBD in the mornings has reduced my pain and taken the place of many over the counter medications. It takes the edge off of my anxiety when I get overwhelmed with normal life (Or extra stress the past few months!) which increases productivity. It helps me be a calm and collected Mom instead of a crazy, worry-wart Mom. I also feel like I am able to wind down at night easier and get a more restful sleep. Maybe it could do the same for you? I encourage you to do your own research, talk to a doctor if that makes you more comfortable, and try CBD oil as soon as you are!
For those interested, I use THIS brand because of the quality. DO NOT BUY CBD oil that is in the checkout line at the gas station. It’s not always the pure version and you’re going to not see results. Upness comes in 3 dosages and 3 flavors. My personal favorite is Mint Vanilla. I would start with 500mg and work your way up. Some of us will need less. Track your body’s response and see for yourself!
