Candace Bushnell’s Small Victorian Farmhouse For Sale in Connecticut

Candace Bushnell Victorian Farm House CT

Candace Bushnell is probably best known as the author of “Sex and the City,” which has been described as a love letter to New York City. Although Carrie Bradshaw wrote in her Manhattan brownstone, Bushnell spent the past decade writing at this Victorian farmhouse in Roxbury, Connecticut. The quaint yellow house was built in 1890 and sits on a quiet country road with three acres, which is about as far from “SatC” as you can get.

It’s on the market, so let’s take a look!

The property comes with a guest house, an antique green barn, a saltwater pool, and an apple orchard and gardens.

Listing agent Maria Taylor says Bushnell found a lot inspiration here.

“She always has her computer out. She’s always writing.”

Famous former residents of Roxbury include Walter Matthau, Arthur Miller, and Frank McCourt.

The Guest House:

The guest house was the biggest improvement Bushnell made to the property.

It has 800 square feet of living space that includes a sleeping area, full bath, and kitchen.

Speaking of the built-in bookshelves, Taylor says, “You can imagine Candace has lots of books.”

A reader named Stephen wrote me about the house and says it’s an area rich with celebrity history: “The home Arthur Miller purchased with Marilyn Monroe was right up the road. Some locals still remember when Marilyn Miller shopped at the Roxbury Market and drove home in her black ’56 Thunderbird convertible.”

Below the guest house is a two-car garage.

Bushnell bought the property in 2005 for $661,500. She’s moving to Sag Harbor to be closer to her friends.

I watched “Sex and the City” back in the day (an online quiz told me I was a Charlotte, ha) and featured the sets when the movies came out (here and here.)  I wrote about Samantha’s Malibu beach house when it was on the market, too.

But a few years ago I read Candace Bushnell’s novel “Lipstick Jungle,” and now it’s my favorite of hers. I’m still sad they canceled the TV series starring Brooke Shields. It had some great sets, too. In fact, in one episode they spent a weekend in this house, which is one of my faves. 🙂
